The decline of a people does not happen in a year or two — it happens gradually. First the language is erased: its scripts are alienated, its grammar declared unnecessary, its ethical principles removed from daily life.
Tamil is approaching the second stage of that decline. Removed from school education and from the language of instruction, today’s children can speak Tamil but cannot write or read it. Without an immediate rescue effort, within twenty-five years the language will be seriously weakened and, within fifty years, it may become a museum language like Latin and Sanskrit.
That is why The Rise, CTACIS and TWI are assembling the Tamil Language Parliament — an official gathering of scholars who speak for the language — on 6–7 January 2027 at the Pillayar Centre, Madurai. Everyone who loves the mother tongue can participate. Lunch and dinner are provided on 6 January; lunch and refreshments on 7 January.
