The great three Tamil Sangams of antiquity were long, structured, sustained — and combined — efforts by political authority and the knowledge community. Reason, fairness, Aram, common sense, love and empathy were the overarching thematic undercurrents of the Sangam repertoire, and knowledge was distributed with remarkable inclusivity.
After them came a long period of darkness caused by alien invasions and ideologies. In 1901, Pandithurai Thevar attempted a fourth Tamil Sangam in Madurai — a gargantuan effort by a lone individual that could not sustain without political patronage.
SANGAM5 is a call to action for a radically new Tamil consciousness: responsible and widespread prosperity through trade and entrepreneurship, rapid embrace of high knowledge accountable to ethics and redemptive reasoning, and the rediscovery of community, empathy and environmental centrality — an era of new and unparalleled renaissance.
Where the earlier Sangams ran for 4,000, 3,000 and 1,000 years, The Rise believes seventy years are enough — if the authority structure leads and the public participates. 8 January 2026 to 7 January 2096 is the Sangam5 era.
